GLOBAL WOMEN VETERANS CONVENING

OUR VISION & PURPOSE

The Global Women Veterans Convening (GWVC) is the first ever global women veterans convening for women veterans, humanitarian workers, and peacekeepers worldwide who are committed to building peace, fostering reconciliation, and challenging the military industrial complex and its impacts. GWVC is organised by experienced grassroots women veterans committed to intersectional organizing principles and social justice. The convening will take place in May 2021 in Washington, DC.

CONVENING FOCUS AREAS

The Global Women's Veterans Convening will have four key focus areas.

INDIGENOUS RIGHTS & COLONIZATION

Matriarchal cultures (Indigenous Pacific Islanders & Native Americans) make up the highest enlisting ethnic groups in the U.S. military and have the potential to change the narrative on global violence against women.

MILITARIZATION

Militarized societies increase poverty, inequalities and violence against women by limiting investment in gender equitable social development.

CLIMATE EMERGENCY

The U.S. Military is one of the world's largest polluters and is the single largest consumer of hydrocarbons in the world. The activity of the world militaries destroys land and resources.

RECONCILIATION & JUSTICE

Historical approaches to peace and security have been exclusionary and limit women’s participation, and rights, while systematically undermining opportunities for peace.
